Buying Eyeglasses Online?

Ordering eyeglasses online is a bad idea…

If you have even the slightest vision problem, you know the necessity for eyeglasses.  With the influx of online shopping, purchasing glasses online has increased tremendously. Unfortunately, this is not the best choice for patients. Let's explore a few of the many reasons purchasing eyeglasses online are a bad idea.

To begin, medical services should never be purchased online. Remember that the need for eyeglasses go far beyond fashion accessories. Vision is a special gift, which should be preserved with care. Certified Opticians hold value when choosing correct frames and lenses for your lifestyle. The in-person conversation about your lifestyle is essential to choosing the correct frames and lenses for each patient, which can only be done with an experienced optician.  Many customers will opt out of important coatings and materials while purchasing online because they do not understand the need for anti-reflective lenses, polycarbonate material, and specialized lenses.

Great vision requires accurate measurements. Pupillary distance measurements, bifocal or progressive measurements and optical centers should all be done by an experienced optician. The optical center of your eyeglass lenses is the part that gives you the truest vision, and it should be directly in front of your pupils. If these measurements are not accurate, the vision will be blurry or distorted.  Also, with ordering online, the patient has nowhere to verify if the glasses were made correctly.

The way that eyeglasses fit your face and head is also important. An experienced optician is a good judge of whether the frames you love will work for you, or whether they will cause you problems once the lenses are inserted. Frames that are too large or that don't fit the bridge of your nose properly can slip. Alternatively, if your glasses are too small, they will be uncomfortable to wear; they can pinch the sides of your head and leave red marks on your temples. They also can cause discomfort behind your ears or on your nose.

We understand the need for lower prices, but there is a greater need for quality. We offer a wide range of eyeglasses to compete price-wise with online purchases, while surpassing the quality, craftsmanship and customer service of online ordering. Remember, there are plenty of things to buy online but medical care is just not one of them.
