LASIK at Baltimore Washington Eye Center

Our doctors have been performing laser vision correction for 15 years with outstanding results. Our On-Site Laser Vision Center continually achieves high levels of patient satisfaction as evidenced by the fact that all of our laser patients achieve the ability to drive without glasses or contacts. Perhaps better still, greater than 9 out of 10 of our patients see as well as or better than they did with their glasses or contact lenses. The advantages of All Laser LASIK are well established and include a faster healing time, a more rapid visual recovery, less risk of scarring, less risk of corneal haze, and less discomfort post-operatively. Very close to 100% of patients are able to return to work the next day.

Millions of people have had laser vision correction surgery to free themselves from eyeglasses or contacts. Before you decide if laser vision correction is right for you, there are some questions you should ask when you schedule a free lasik consultation:

  • What are the surgeon’s background, education, and certifications?
  • Is the surgeon certified to perform the procedure?
  • How long has the surgeon/practice been in the area?
  • Is their office in your area or are they from out of town and here temporarily performing surgery?
  • Who will perform your pre and post-op examinations?
  • Who owns and is responsible for maintaining the laser?
  • Does the laser remain at the center or is it moved around from place to place?
  • How much will the procedure cost?
  • Who trains and supervises the staff?
Beyond those questions here are some other commonly asked questions:

Can the laser treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism?
Yes.

Can Lasik correct my need for reading glasses?
Yes, with monovision, which is an intentional under-correction of one eye, folks who would otherwise need reading glasses can read without them following laser vision correction (LVC). If you choose to have both eyes corrected for distance, than you will need reading glasses after laser vision correction.

How much time would I have to take off work?
Most people who have LVC return to work the next day.

Can I wear contacts after the surgery if needed?
Yes.

How long does LASIK take?
About 10 minutes for each eye.

Does it hurt?
No. You may feel some pressure, but you should not feel any pain.

Can I have LASIK if I am pregnant?
Pregnancy can change a person’s refractive error, so mothers should wait about 3 months after finishing breast feeding before considering LASIK.

Is there an age requirement for LVC?
Yes. At least 21 years old.
